Everyone buried the lede on this. That Brett Kavanaugh racked up a quarter million dollars in credit card debt isn't the important part. That the White House claims he did so buying baseball tickets, while strange, is not the important part. The important part is a question and that question is:

Supreme court Justice Antonin Scalia died (no doubt murdered by Donald Trump is a rage over competing comb overs).   Scalia was a dim bulb and an ideologue of the worst sort.A Twitter Egg.   I man who could barely string together a coherent series of ideas, and instead parroted talk radio bromides peppered with anachronistic slang in an attempt to sound interesting. He was a man with no ethical center, and no true judicial core. He ranted about originialism and textualism, then created, out of whole cloth, an individual right to own machine guns. He loved the original text of the constitution in it was useful in oppressing the poor and minorities and ignored it when it got in the way of his corporate gods. None of that I really important here, though.

Scalia’s replacement is what we must be interested in. The Repulicans had an easy path before them:

1.       Pretend to play ball

2.       Go slow

3.       Vote down every nominee that Obama offered.

That is all they needed to do. They would get what they wanted, and it would cost them nothing. Instead, in what can only be called an unforced error, they began (within minutes of Scalia’s demise) screaming that they would defy the constitution, shut down the system and fuck everyone. They threw a tantrum. Now they have to pay the price.

The price will likely be a Democratic Senate.

And, as for Scalia’s replacement? The possibilities are (in Descending order):

Hillary Clinton picks a liberal

Bernie Sanders picks a Super-Liberal

Donald Trump picks Kanye West

Antonin Scalia is the worst person in America. I don't say that he is teh worst American, because he is decidedly Un-American. He is a slow witted bigot. A dimwit to rival all others. And this fuckwit, blowhard, empty suit with no understanding of history or the constitution has more power than nearly any other person in the nation.

This man is the best argument for voting only for Democrats for President for the rest of history.

Antonin Scalia is an unreconstructed bigot. That goes without saying, yet he keeps saying it. The Supreme Court may well dismantle the last vestiges of Affirmative Action to mollify an entitled moron who didn't earn an admission to even a crap school. Being white is not a qualification.  The court is being asked to rule that a black student with good grades and test scores should be denied a place in a university to make way for an obviously slow witted slacker simply because said nim-wit is white.

Fucking hell.

This is the irony of Justice Ginsburg’s having become a pop culture icon, inspired by her fiery dissents to the conservative majority opinions. Young women have tattooed themselves and painted their nails with the justice’s face. They’ve created tributes in needlepoint, clay, T-shirt and Lego.

Justice Ginsburg has been depicted as an avenging angel smiting her enemies, with two middle fingers up in the air, and as a warrior Athena inked on the arm of more than one feminist. (The justice, generally amused by all this, has told me that she thinks the tattoos go too far.) Spend enough time looking at this fan art and you can get the impression that she is a sort of judicial Carrie Nation, hacking at injustice with a hatchet.

What they want from us

Once again, Loomis nails it. This article at Lawyers, Guns and Money gets to the meat of what the "Libertarians" want for the country. It isn't a pretty picture.

This future, which sounds hopelessly dystopian, is entirely possible if Republicans win the 2016 presidential election. And we need to be calling out libertarians for what they are–people who think dead workers is a form of freedom. People who think working 84-hour weeks in a steel mill is totally acceptable. People who want you to experience another Donora Smog in the name of liberty. People who want to eliminate OSHA and the EPA. People who want to tear apart everything that makes this nation livable. And they are this close to succeeding.

This is why the next election is so fucking important. Any Democrat (Even Martin from the Wire) would help stave off disaster by not appointing another Alito to the Supreme Court.
