Russian Nesting Doll seems like too obvious as a metaphor . . .

I have been saying (here and elsewhere) for quite some time that the GOP as a whole is at least complicit in the Russian program to subvert and undermine American Democracy. There are obvious moles (Dana Rohrbacher, anyone?) within the Republican Party, to be sure. But now it looks like the entire structure of the GOP may be wholly owned by Putin and his cronies.

I do have to wonder of this is what Putin had in mind. Seems like this sort of destabilization creates a chance for Russia to step in and expand their power and influence.
